Vernazza: Lunch on the Edge

The wind is howling outside, it is pouring down rain and it is cold. We arrived at our lodging for the night by taxi after learning our lesson from the last day like this. We are so grateful to be indoors although there is no heat except a little wood which we will use to make a fire tonight in the fireplace. I don't think their heat is turned on yet for the season. It is our first agriturismo for this trip. Praise God for coats and blankets! I am all curled up with plenty of time to write to you. We currently in Capranica but I want to share a lunch we had in the town of Vernazza in the Cinque Terre area.

As we waited for our morning train ride to see the other towns in Cinque Terre, we visited with a couple from Wisconsin. They said that if we happened to be in Vernazza at lunch time we should stop at this certain ristorante because the views of the ocean were spectacular. Well, you guessed it, we were in this town at lunch time and we were completely astonished at where they seated us! To get the perspective I must show several pictures. They had many seating areas but this area with about five tables had to be the absolute BEST! Just don't think about where you actually are.

Do you see the umbrellas on the outcropping of the cliff, well, check out the next photo which is a close up view from below after they closed for the afternoon (as soon as we left.)

This was our lunch seating. Now look at our precarious yet spectacular ocean views.

I will finish this blog with one more to show you how my husband, that never liked shrimp and rarely ate sea food, is eating over here. Don't you wish you had lunch with us on Thursday! We were there for two hours visiting with a couple at the next table from Switzerland. It was so gorgeous we could have stayed for two more hours.
