Well, we had a really nice day to walk today, so it was back on the trail. This was one of the best hikes, if not the best. Lots of beautiful spots, country lanes, and a long hike through a large woods. It really reminded us of hiking in a woods in Ohio. It ended up being further than the map indicated, but was worth the effort.
Starting out we were amazed at the number of chestnut trees and the thousands of chestnuts on the ground. All the brown I am walking through is chestnut hulls, not leaves. Throughout the day, we kept wondering why nobody was picking up all those nuts.
The early part of the day was along great country roads.
Then we headed into the woods.
Much of the day we hiked along this stream. It was a beautiful hike through the woods in a fairly steep, thickly wooded valley.
And we arrived in Sutri. This is a very old town with several Etruscan and Roman sites to see. We will be staying here tomorrow to see some of these sites, so we will blog more on the town in the next couple of days.
