Kindness in Piverone

On the third day of walking, we were a bit weary from the last two days. In the morning we bought sandwiches and chips to stop midday for a meal. We learned that we may or may not have a caffè open where we walked and that we need to pace ourselves. So at midday we came into an old village called Piverone. At the Piazza was a stone bench in the shade, so we stopped for lunch. As we sat eating, an elderly lady came out of a door off the piazza and asked if we would like some water to refill our water bottles. We said si, GRAZIE . She brought out a large water bottle and as we filled our bottles, another pilgrim came along and filled his also. We visited in our limited Italian and then she asked the three of us if we would like some caffè? SI, GRAZIE! She went into her home just off the piazza, brewed coffee, brought it out in three beautiful, colorful, cups. She brought it on a tray with sugar and milk. She was so apologetic that the local caffè was closed today and that no one was working. The young man was from near Venezia and spoke a little English. We had such a good time visiting and drinking our coffee that it was difficult to continue down the road. Such kindness  was the highlight of our day! Her name was Ellice. So to all the Ellice's of the world - your kindness to strangers is such a gift and is much appreciated. May God richly bless you!

Sooooo jealous of your daily walks through scenic Italy while I study in this gloomy, dark office on the 10th floor of the hospital. Your blogs every morning are what motivate me to go downstairs and just stand outside basking in the sunlight for a few glorious minutes :) keep up the great stories and pictures.

I agree Zeb. I tell them almost daily but I still don't think they realize how inspirational they are!
